about

On a July morning in Tofino, while I was writing for the album March of the Sun, I took my dogs to Cox Bay, and met Ella Freestone. I was down on the beach playing guitar, watching the pups run around, and she walked up and said hello. We ended up singing a few songs together that day and when I played Silence in the Trees for her, her harmony was so good that I had to re-record this song and have her sing on it.

Sometimes songs take time to find their way, the key and the speed at which they resonate best. Sometimes, they just need time to evolve and grow into what they're supposed to be...kinda like us. I feel this song is like that.

I wanted to put it on the album, but seeing as it was such an old song for me, I didn't feel like it made sense.

It was recorded in July, so it feels like a part of the album to me - which is why its a Bside.

Thanks for being part of this Ella.
